Mixed this from scratch using Native Instruments Komplete 7 and a Korg Nano Keyboard from my deckchair on the beach in Spain - nice work if you can get it. Only had an iPhone with me for the video so it's not very exciting but it was either that or use a still. Victoria has a new album out in September called "Ïn My Fragile". The original version of this track was on the limited edition USB stick.

Saturday 3rd September 2011
Venue: To be confirmed
Viewing: Friday 2nd September and morning of sale

This summer, Alan Wilder will be selling a large selection of musical / studio equipment and memorabilia at auction. Many items are very collectable and hold special value having been used extensively in the recording sessions for classic Depeche Mode and Recoil albums, as well as live performances on the 'Black Celebration', 'Music For The Masses', World Violation' and 'Devotional' tours.

The additional memorabilia such as Gold & Platinum award discs, leather clothing, rare vinyl acetates, posters, tour merchandise and much more, covers Alan's entire musical career, focusing mainly on the years between 1982 & 1995 and making this one of the most exciting career sales to hit the public domain ever. It is also the first time ever that a Depeche Mode memorabilia sale on this scale has appeared.

The auction will be held at a venue in Manchester, however it will be possible to bid from anywhere in the world via the internet. Details/photographs of the items will be available shortly.

Says Alan... "One of my new year's resolutions this year was to start streamlining my set-up at The Thin Line Studios. My needs have altered a bit since laptops, soft synths and plug-ins have come to the fore, and even though I'm emotionally attached, passing on some vintage gear and historical items seems like a good way to start.

Since my teenage years I've been an avid collector of interesting and unique musical items, including a 'Steinway' Grand piano, vintage keyboards, synthesisers such as the 'Mini-moog', 'Arp Odyssey', a 'Wurlitzer' electric piano, plus 'Manley' valve amps, valve-driven 'Telefunken' amps and a 'Manley' limiter/compressor. There is one very special guitar and various 'Emulators' which were featured during the Mode tours, and I even have my old stage clothing, touring wardrobe, the 'Devotional' drum kit, drumming extras and other artifacts available.

I also decided that, since I was having a clear out and with so many writing in asking for things, why not include some extra memorabilia and pass on some of the stuff I have collected over the years -- like my leather jackets, tour merchandise, records, promo items and even presentation awards. So I have expanded the concept and hopefully created an exciting and unique event. It's all up for grabs now! Good luck with your bidding..."

http://www.utopianstation.com/utopiantv/channels/viewvideo/264/music-made-with-bees

I wanted to see how far I could take the recordings of bees into the realm of music. The bee produces about 200-230 wing flaps pr. second, which is enough to generate a nice, rich sounding buzz. I recorded a bunch of bee sounds and manipulated them through a variety of tools (including timefreezers, delays, filters, glitch modules etc). I then decided to add some more human elements to it (vocals, guitars, grooves etc) and wrapped it up by adding full symphony orchestra and choirs on it during the end.

Besides the bee sounds - the majority of samples are coming from the tonehammer.com sample catalog.

Hope you enjoy it. Einstein once predicted that the human race would survive no more then 4 years after the extinction of bees due to their keystone role in the entire ecosystem.

Peace out to all the bees and bumbles.

The music of Banco de Gaia is best categorized as ambient dub, but Marks works to cross genres, often using Arabic and Middle Eastern samples against a bass heavy reggae, rock, or trance rhythm to produce deeply textured tracks that progress layer upon layer. In 1978 Marks began his musical career as a drummer in a heavy metal band. Marks moved to Portugal in 1986 and played Beatles music for tourists. He first delved into electronic music in 1989, when he bought a digital sampler. The first tune he recorded on it was called Maxwell House. In 1997, Banco De Gaia put together a five piece band that included Ted Duggan (drums), Ashley Hopkins (bass), Larry Whelan (Wind Synth, Sax and Ethnic Flutes), and Gary Spacey-Foot (Percussion and Saxes). The band reduced in number to just Marks, Duggan, and Hopkins in 1999, and then just Marks and Duggan from 2000 until 2003; when Marks went back to being a solo artist. On 20 September 2009 Banco De Gaia played an album launch show for his new album Memories Dreams Reflections at Dingwalls in London. This show was to celebrate 20 years of Banco De Gaia. Marks was joined on stage by three members from the original five piece band, Hopkins, Whelan, and Duggan and vocalist Maya Preece, who sings on the new album.

Apparently the lads didn't have the best time dealing with Ray Davies.

Nitzer Ebb is playing The Paradise in Boston this Thursday (12.03.09). Provocateur is opening, and legendary DJ Chris Ewen will be spinning before, between, and after both bands.
